Mutations for Yield and Protein Increase

Tech ID: 16.613

Key Features

  • UPL3 genome editing for yield increase in crops
  • Down regulation of UPL3 increases seed yield, protein and lipid in content
  • New: homologues identified in monocot crops

Description

Down regulation of UPL3 leads to increases in seed yield and seed protein and lipid content.  Single homologues have now been identified as gene editing targets in monocot crops (maize, wheat, rice and barley) and also cotton.  Further analysis of elite oil seed rape germplasm shows that there is still potential to increase yields through down regulation of UPL3.
