Pain relief solution from research by Sainsbury Laboratory

Today the BBC has featured news of a new drug, called Givosiran, that will be available in the UK and that helps people suffering from crippling pain caused by acute intermittent porphyria (Gene silencing medicine transforms crippling pain). This breakthrough drug is based on siRNA (short interfering RNA) "gene silencing" technology identified by Professor David Baulcombe and colleagues at The Sainsbury Laboratory, Norwich, UK and patented by PBL Technology. Givosiran has been developed by Alnylam, the leading siRNA therapeutics company, along with several other new therapeutics using this innovative approach to health solutions, under a licence from PBL.
